Summer is coming to an end, school has started, and fall is on it’s way (yay!). I love fall! This past week I’ve been going through all my fall decor deciding what I wanted to do this year in my home. I have a good mix of fall stuff. However, I wanted to switch it up some this year so I started making over some of my old decor. I started with some of my pumpkins. This particular pumpkin actually started out as white and was previously a turkey, lol. Metal pieces of wings, feet, and a beak, were once skewered through this pumpkin hence the holes. It is now officially a holy pumpkin, lol. No worries, I plan on covering most of those holes up. Here is what I started with.
It’s a lovely holy pumpkin isn’t it? Seriously though, This was a super cheap decorator pumpkin I bought a couple of years ago. I didn’t want to throw it out, so after buying a feathery velvet pumpkin recently it inspired me to make over my old pumpkin into it’s feathery brother. It actually turned out pretty cute! I had the feather pick in my old fall decor stash and though there is only one pictured here I used two of them to complete this project. You could buy a small bag of feathers rather inexpensively at almost any craft store if you don’t have anything feathery to use. The only other thing I used in this project was my handy dandy glue gun, also not pictured(fail).
First thing I did was cut all my feathers off of my pick. I then started gluing the longer feathers around the base of the stem of the pumpkin. Leaving about a quarter to half inch space between each feather. This space amount will vary depending on the size pumpkin you are working with. Then I added a second layer of feathers in the middle of the open spaces going all the way around the pumpkin stem. I continued this step two more times until I was happy with the feather coverage. Here is what my finished pumpkin looks like.
Such a quick and easy update where a little primping went a long way. I love how it updated this boring old pumpkin. Thank you so much for stopping by! I would love to see your made over pumpkins of any style please feel to share them in my comments or to my Facebook page here.
