I’ve kept these two pickle jars that I was sure I could use or do something with. I was originally planning to use them as storage containers for flour, sugar, that type of thing. That was until a day or two ago while I was scrolling through Instagram I stopped to comment on one of my new to me favorite accounts. Anyways, the post that stopped me was of their gorgeous kitchen and on their island was this vase that I just really liked. I went to see what that vase was selling for and it was a bit more than I was willing to pay. So, I thought about it and I was like I can probably DIY that and I quickly remembered said pickle jars.
Here is the inspiration vase. If you are not the DIY type you can buy it here because it is beautiful and Mcgee and Co. sells amazing stuff!
Ok, so the first thing I did was tape off the part that I didn’t want to be painted. I did this with painters tape and then I put press and seal around the rest of the glass part to shield it from the paint. You could do this with all tape or a plastic bag or something also. You just want to make sure your tape is pressed down flush around the jar so you reduce seepage on to the part you do not want painted. Here is what it looks like all taped up.
Ready to paint because that is the next step. This is the paint I used.
You are gonna want to put about three coats of paint. Light coats so you don’t get any drips. That can be a little bit of a challenge with spray painting glass.
Once dry, peel off your tape and plastic wrap. Here is how mine came out. Not perfect but thats ok because I wanted to add a leather element to my vase. I was hoping my kiddos had an old belt to use for this but they only had black and I was hoping for something brown. Then I remembered I had a brown purse strap that I never used. So that is what is pictured below with the jar.
Next I measured around the jar and cut my purse strap to fit snug around my vase with a just about a half of an inch of overage so I could hot glue it together so it stayed on the vase. Here it is all done and styled in my space.
Cute right? Super quick and easy afternoon DIY for you if you have an old jar. Really any glass container would work for this. You could paint any color you desire also so keep that in mind.
