Essentials For Creating A Romantic Bedroom

So, I asked my husband last night what he thought makes a romantic bedroom?  His response was, “I have no idea.” But that’s totally fine because I have plenty of ideas, lol.  He did come back a couple of minutes later with, “Actually I do have something… Music! Music, to drown out the noisy kids!”  Haha. Well, his response was a good one but I think it was lacking a few other essentials that I’m convinced make for a romantic bedroom.

  1.  A PLUSH AND LAYERED BED-  Regardless of what furniture you have or lack there of.  Invest in good bedding.  Seriously, This is going to make the whole room and set the entire mood.  Buy higher quality sheets (try for a higher thread count, I try and stay over 500).  You can watch stores like TJ Maxx, Ross, Marshall’s, Overstock.com, Wayfair.com, etc. to look for discounted sets. Also, Invest in good pillows.  I suggest buying pillow inserts for your decorative pillows so you can switch up  pillow covers if you want to change your style or color palate.  I like to have 2-3 euro pillows (26×26) and a couple 20×20 pillows to layer things up.  I prefer down and feather pillows because they just fluff up so nicely and sit so pretty.  You can also buy them online at places like Overstock.com, Amazon.com, etc.  Tip: When buying pillow covers for your euro pillows buy covers two inches smaller (24×24).  It makes for a fuller and fluffier look.  Next, you need a soft plush blanket and a quilt or comforter.  I prefer a down comforter and a duvet personally because they just fluff up and look super full. Last, not a must but a plus, I like to add a fur throw and fur pillow, it just adds more softness and another layer of texture to the room.Source
  2. SOFT LIGHTING- Use lamps, chandeliers, sconces, etc. to create a soft all the time lighting instead of harsh overhead lighting.  Source
  3. CANDLES- There is no light more romantic than the warm soft glow of a candle.  Use candles all around the room to enhance the other soft lighting in the space.  Have you seen the awesome new remote controlled flickering candles you can buy in sets?  They shut off automatically after a time you select expires.  You don’t have to worry about the fire hazard or spilling wax on anything. Great option. Source
  4. SCENT-  This is a big one for me.  I love an amazing smelling room.  There are so many options available to make your room smell delicious.  You can use, candles, flowers, Scentsy, diffusers, incense, potpourri, bedding sprays, etc.  Be sure to pick a scent you and your hubby agree on so you both enjoy it.                                       Source
  5.  MUSIC-  Great way to set the mood anywhere is with music so don’t forget to preselect or make yourself an awesome playlist. Also,  invest in a good speaker system so you have some decent sound quality.Source
  6. ORDER AND CLEANLINESS– Try and keep your room clean and as free of clutter as possible.  Also, keep things like pictures limited to those of you and your spouse.  This room is only about the two of you anyway. Even if it seems your little ones often have it under siege, lol. Put family pics everywhere else in the house instead.
